Well, I’ve been amassing quite a collection of rap songs that have popular electronic songs as the beat so I figured it’d be worth my time to share a couple of these gems with you. Personally, before I had any clue what electronic music was all about, I was quite the rap fan and so I still have an ear for a quality hip-hop song when I hear it. Some of these songs are bangers and others are just great for some chilling out but they all take what we love about the original and add in some kickin’ rhymes. (You’ll notice none of these are mashups… I don’t fux with that)
This first one is off the Peanut Butter & Swelly mixtape, the latest contribution from “Chiddy” and superproducer Xaphoon Jones. Xaphoon, in my opinion, is the only reason Chiddy Bang is a household name today: his beats kill it and if you doubt it, check out his own work (such as this song) and you’ll see what I’m talking about. On this one, Xaphoon takes the infectious song “I Can’t Stop” by Flux Pavilion and turns it into a beat for Chiddy to freestyle over. Tight song.
Next up I have a song that’s been all over the internet lately. While The Glitch Mob remixed this song themselves on their Drink the Sea Pt II mixtape with samples from at least 6 different hip-hop artists, King Fantastic, a duo consisting of “Killer” Reese One and Troublemaker, takes a slightly different approach on this one by bring his own unique style to it. The lyrics match up with the name of the song which is nice and gives the overall song a real nice flow. P.S. KF calls their genre of music “Westcoastsynthesizerbeachbumgangstermusic”. Yup.

This next one I personally find to be utterly hilarious and the first time I heard it I literally laughed out loud. I actually heard it on the radio but it stuck in my head the whole day so I ended up finding it online and it started to really grow on me. This one might be hit or miss for a lot of people but give it a chance, its a pretty good party song and will definitely give everyone who hears it a “WTF?” moment. I’m not even going to tell you what this is a remix of because if you don’t know, it’s probably a lost cause anyways.

Finally, and this one is my favorite, I have a remix of the track I posted pretty recently by SBTRKT called “Wildfire.” A not-so-secret secret of mine is that I love Drake. Absolutely love him. Well, maybe not the crooney stuff but when he throws down, he fucking THROWS DOWN. True example right here – takes a song that I never thought could be a hip-hop beat (although now it makes a lot of sense) and absolutely murders it. Unfortunately we only get one verse from him but the rest of the song is so good it doesn’t matter. This one might be on repeat for you guys for a while.

BONUS: This one’s an oldie but if you don’t have it you need to pick it up. Busta Rhymes absolutely murders this track by Tiesto & Diplo with his fast-paced flow. Like King Fantastic did on the Glitch Mob remix, he takes the song and works the lyrics into it adeptly, making this one another sick party song. Video is awesome too.
