If you’ve been keeping at least one ear open to the EDM world over the past several weeks, you’ve undoubtedly heard Zedd’s most recent Electro-House thriller “Shave It”. After releasing one of the biggest remixes of the year (Swedish House Mafia’s “Save the World”), touring with young-but-killing-it artists like Skrillex and Porter Robinson (Zedd is only 21 years old himself), and headlining major festivals, Zedd continues his rise to the top. “Shave It” has gotten play all over the world by some of the biggest DJs in the game and it has my full support. While some of my friends and peers are huge Zedd fans (myself included – in my opinion he hasn’t had a miss yet), feedback on this track was varied. I still hold true to my positive opinion and I even have it in rotation in my DJ sets.
As of today, three official remixes are out on Skrillex’s OWSLA Records, available for download on Beatport. Remixing duties were awarded to two of the hottest producers out there right now: Kaskade and Tommy Trash. If you’ve read this blog over the past several weeks then you are familiar with their names. And for a different spin on the track, Zedd went to dubstep artist 501 to take things up to 140 bpm.
All the tracks are straight filthy in their own ways and even Kaskade’s version hits hard (for those of you expecting some dry-hump-enducing female vocals or uplifting melodies from him, maybe you’ll get those next time). Tommy Trash continues to make my jaw drop and 501 is a new experience for me but let’s just say my interest has been piqued.
