Chris Engel, aka XALER (pronounced ex-ale-er), is a 19-year-old Dubstep producer out of Boston, MA. It’s rare that we hear of people in the EDM game coming from the Bay State, but thanks to a mutual connection, I was able to discover Xaler’s awesome track called “Golden”.
Xaler currently attends the Berklee College of Music which has acted as a jumping off point for artists such as John Mayer, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater (one of the most talented drummers I’ve ever seen or heard), and Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. Xaler is originally from Philadelphia and has been producing electronic music (specifically Electro/House and Dubstep) for just over a year now although he has been making and playing music since he was very young. He started out by playing guitar but moved towards digital production just before his first year of college.
Although Xaler is just getting his feet wet, you can tell with a song of this production quality good things are due to come his way. Currently “Golden” is set to start playing on a few radio stations in the UK and word of mouth has caused it to grow a lot recently. He has 3 more songs in the works and an EP due this summer but he is currently unsigned. This track really got to me with its beautiful vocals (by RadMila) and a face-melting drop that brought artists such as Sub Focus, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, and [of course] Skrillex to mind. I think you’ll like what you hear and make sure to keep an eye on this kid!
