This is Branchez. He is from New York. His shirt is awesome. He also produces some fabulous music, that I’m hesitant to label trap for fear that certain listeners might go running. His EP Vol. 1 featured five tracks of pretty interesting street beats and was certainly a notable introduction to the man. But this track takes his credibility to a whole new level in my book. As was pointed out when “Shake” debuted on LFTF by writer Michael Washington, the problem with the trap genre and its interpretation is that “everyone’s focus has been on highlighting the bad rather than trying to uncover the good.” And I couldn’t agree more. It’s easy to criticize the untalented wannabes who make half-baked remixes from their car-beds in their mom’s basements. But sometimes it’s a worthwhile endeavor to put the negativity blasts down for a minute and listen in on those who still believe in the potential of a sound and have the ability to make it work. Branchez introduces the jazzy track with a nice piano loop and steady claps, opening it up with some horns into a really pleasant hip-hop beat (I didn’t use the word trap there for a reason). Enjoy this one for free and keep an eye on Branchez.
