What a fucking treat this morning! The folks at Rolling Stone have been making a concerted effort to stay relevant in the dance music game as of late, and their feature post today brings them up a notch in my book: the Tommy Trash remix of “Higher” by Destructo. After attending Holy Ship I had a new found respect for Destructo, the brain behind HARD and such events like Holy Ship and HARD Summer (just listen to his private island beach set). His song “LA Funky” with Oliver was essentially the theme song of Holy Ship and one of my favorite dance songs of the past year. Over the past several months, the song “Higher” has been circulating and it’s been one of my most highly-anticipated songs of the year (I’ve literally been marking my calendar to make sure I don’t miss the release). A release date was finally announced of June 10th on Boys Noize Records and in order to garner added excitement for that date, a free Tommy Trash remix of the jam was unveiled today. We all know Tommy Trash is a freak of nature in the studio and it’s no surprise that his take on “Higher” is an absolute fire storm. While the original mix falls somewhere between Booty Bass, Deep House, and straight Funk, the Trash remix cranks it up a notch to an Electro-House banger.
Make sure to keep your eyes out for the drop of Destructo’s Higher EP on June 10th and if you’re in Boston this Friday night go check him out for a late-night set at Rise with Bamboora!
