While “Bird Machine” may have been getting a lot of play over the past couple months, two guys from California have been waiting to release their track “Bird is the Word”. Norin & Rad, one of my favorite production/DJ names on Anjunabeats, finally put out their latest effort yesterday. You may recognize “Bird is the Word” from Mat Zo’s February 2013 Essential Mix, as he gave us a preview during his jam-packed two hour mix. “Bird is the Word” actually has a bit of Mat Zo flavor in it, as the main beat reminds me of Zo’s awesome track “Bipolar”. But I assure you, Norin & Rad have really made this track their own, and in the words of Mark Knight it’s an absolute smash. It’s got a grimy, ravey House sound, some cool percussive rhythms, and a Trancey, melodic break in the middle. I’m a little disappointed Norin & Rad didn’t include a sample of Peter Griffin singing “Bird is the Word”, but I think I’ll manage. While Norin & Rad may have evolved away from a true Trance sound, what they HAVE developed is something that I’m a fan of time and time again. I’ve written about how you must see the boys live and I stand by that, especially as they continue to produce fantastic tracks and grow their name via a unique and bangin’ sound. I still hope they come to Boston soon and you know where to find me if they do!
