Listen up Phoenix, the future of sound has finally arrived to the deep deserts of the Southwest. A fresh, young producer going by the single word moniker, Ballast has exploded onto the scene with a huge debut EP. The future sound that I refer to can best be described by those under the wings of the infamous Dirtybird label, which begs the question: when will this kid be joining their ranks? Ballast produces two originals for the EP, “Hands Up” is an instant classic featuring some deep vocals and that signature pop as the beat picks up and booties start rocking. “Bossy” features more of a technical side of Ballast that will get you up and bumping around the room. The originals are accompanied by remixes from Lux Groove and Jayko, both pump up the action to keep you bouncing late into the evening. Ballast is just another example of the “bedroom deejay” movement that is letting amatuers become exposed and discovered without the need of agents and labels.
