Eric Prydz, the man they call Pryda, brings his 3D hologram based EPIC (Eric Prydz In Concert) tour overseas for the first time in October. The EPIC concept was first conceived in London in 2011 and was the first dance event ever to use 3D holograms, custom built projection surfaces, rotational 3D mapping and laser display; a project that took Prydz and technical designers Immersive LTD 18 months to conceive.
The concert was something the dance community had never seen before, leaving patrons with the feeling that they have witnessed something special. And now, after 2 years in the UK, Prydz will bring the EPIC 2.0 concept to Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.
EPIC is a narrative told through sight and sound, a musical journey told by Prydz and Immersive LTD. Eric has been hard at work crafting new tunes specifically for this tour, while Immersive LTD has been working in conjunction with Prydz to evolve the concept of EPIC to EPIC 2.0
“When I DJ I try and take people on a journey, I like an environment that’s stripped down, and allows the music to speak for itself. EPIC is something else, we’re expanding the narrative – it’s a concert show. With the holograms, the lasers and the visuals, I am able to tell a story on many different levels. It’s taken us two years to get to this point, EPIC has been evolving and changing, as we work to improve the fan experience, and deepen the ties between the music and the visuals. EPIC is a one-time show, after this run we will sit down and it will change again. Once you’ve seen it, it will be gone.”- Eric Prydz
If the teaser video above is any indication of what American Prydz fans will experience in October, then I am speechless. Prydz is clearly stepping up the level of creativity when it comes to the value of event productions, it seems completely unique, an unmatched experience, and something that other artists will have an extremely hard time even trying to duplicate. I have not heard of someone putting so much effort into the production since Skrillex stepped into that motion capturing body suit, which was a spectacle, during his Mothership Tour 2 years ago.
Tickets for the Epic 2.0 tour go on sale Friday August 23rd.
