Ta-Ku’s tagline on SoundCloud is “GENRE KILLER” and that right there is the truth. While he may be the lesser known (but equally talented) Australian producer (eh hem… Flume), he is nothing short of a production machine, dropping new remixes, originals and, yes, hybrids of the two often several times a week. And he’s very right, you’d find it an impossible task to try to assign almost any of his music a genre and you can tell from listening through his catalog that he doesn’t attempt to produce within one either. Sure, he has a fondness for snappy snares and chopped and screwed samples but the music he makes is far from trap. One of Ta-Ku‘s most notable achievements to date has been his successful Re-Werk series of mixtapes. Re-Werk Volume II, which dropped back in June, featured a handful of “originals ϟ reworks ϟ remixes” in true mixtape fashion. It’s an eclectic mix of new takes on old favorites, fun beats and unique musical ideas wrapped up into a tight package. Amidst his constant stream of remixes, his latest really stood out to me – a remix of Oisima’s “Everything About Her”. The introduction to the song is mellow, ambient and playful with the vocals before it opens up into one of Ta-Ku’s signature beats around the 1:30 mark. It’s indescribable so I won’t try – you’ll have to hear for yourself. He has never disappointed me in his productions and this is no exception.
