Few words are needed to describe the event that is going to happen this Friday at Boston’s Bijou Nightclub. Whether or not you like Tech-House or Techno, chances are you’ve heard the legendary name of UMEK (2.3MM likes on Facebook) in your lifetime. In 1993 UMEK became one of the pioneers of electronic music in Slovenia, beginning his DJ career at the age of just 17. Throughout his career UMEK has composed original tracks and remixes as well as founded multiple record labels. UMEK’s most-recent record label is the famous 1605 which was started in 2007 and boasts 140 releases by over 250 artists. Along with the 1605 label, UMEK runs a weekly podcast alternating between guest mixes (“1605 Radio”) and his personal selections dubbed “Behind The Iron Curtain”. UMEK’s tracks, mixes, and live sets are packed full of energy and keep the beat pounding as if to never end. Even Slovenia’s president voted for UMEK in the DJ Mag poll and regards the DJ/producer as one of the most important exports Slovenia has ever seen. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll be at Bijou this Friday to see a legendary set by a legendary DJ. If you were at Mark Knight earlier this year, I can imagine you’ll experience a similarly awesome night this Friday.
