Krafty Kuts, real name Martin Reeves, is the multi-award winning DJ/producer and the undisputed King of breaks. Acclaimed in the UK, adored in Australia, admired in North America, Krafty is a living legend of electronic music. His multi-genre sets, dexterity on the decks and dedication to dancefloor hedonism have earned him hierarchy status in every genre of electronic music.
Krafty Kuts is one of those guys who’s been doing it forever. The closest comparison I can think of would be DJ Shadow – a veteran in both the production and DJ space, who spins breaks and multi-genre sets and stays off the beaten path. If Brighton sounds like a familiar part of the UK that’s because many electronic artists hail from there – off the top of my head we have Prok & Fitch, Hucci, and Beardyman but there are of course others.
When I was flipping through my SoundCloud feed yesterday I stopped on Krafty Kut’s new track “Going Crazy”. On his SoundCloud page he simply says “A cheeky rework on the Gnarls Barkley classic ‘Crazy'”. Well “Crazy” is certainly one of those timeless classics and I’m always interested in hearing new takes on the track even if it’s years later. Around the 1:45 mark we get to see Krafty Kuts shine with his funky Break Beat rework. I love all the different sounds Krafty Kuts used in the song, with a delicious UK Garage/Two-Step type of bass line that wobbles as it works.
If you like this track you need to spend lots of time with Krafty Kuts’ SoundCloud page, including the mix he just posted for The Armory (it’s quite good – check below). Additionally KK is hitting the tour circuit starting this Friday in Denver, see below for the complete list of stops!
