Offbeat is a music collective out of Boston, MA started by our good friend Shikhar Saxena and his crew of dance music aficionados. If you looked at the dance music scene in Boston less than five years ago, things were a bit lacking. Being a smaller market, big name DJs would only come to Boston during weekday nights, choosing to play in bigger markets like NYC or Washington D.C. on the weekends when the demand and paydays were higher. Thanks in huge part to Shikhar and his dedication to GOOD dance music, Boston now has no shortage of opportunities to go out and enjoy some of dance music’s best DJs, as well as local New England-based acts. Of course, Shikhar can’t take all the credit, but if you’re at all plugged into the dance scene in Boston you probably know his name.
At Offbeat we aim to be the proponents of house music and our mission is to bring it to the masses or those that dare to explore! This is a group of music enthusiasts designing a business to support their passion in life, which is, the dissemination of all creative and radical sounds, that have been explored and curated by the team members of the Offbeat family. We aim to create a vibrant community of DJ’s, both experienced and just breaking into the scene, and provide them with the necessary tools to develop into well rounded artists and provide opportunities for them to display their skills to the masses.
Every week or so the Offbeat team releases a new mix from someone in their network, to help that artist show his/her stuff and gain some recognition. As of today 61 episodes have aired and I am grateful to Shikhar for giving me the opportunity to submit my mix for two hours of what I consider quality House music. These are the tunes I’m currently feeling, 35 of them to be exact, mixed together in a way that will keep your head nodding and body moving. I picked some songs that are within the G-House realm, the Nu-Disco area, some House that is a bit more chill while some House that truly bumps speakers.
If you’re reading this and based within the San Francisco/Bay Area and you like what you hear, give me a shout as I’m always looking for opportunities to spin live. Let me know what you think of the mix!
