It’s always funny what sorts of gems you find at 10:30 on a Monday night. Here I am digging through some old emails when I find an unread one from June. Well, shame on me. What caught my eye? The opening line “My name is RICHEY”. These days, personally-written emails directly from artists are few and far between. So take note aspiring producers: if you want me to notice you, take a page out of RICHEY’s book and personalize your message.
What impressed me about RICHEY is that he’s just 20 years old but already has quite the resume. RICHEY, who hails from one of my favorite cities of Montreal, used to release music with John Digweed, Hot Since 82, and Booka Shade. RICHEY also won the Beatport Guy Gerber Competition for the track “Steady”. All of these releases happened under RICHEY’s previous moniker “Richie G”, starting when he was just 15 years old. But now the young producer has completely changed his sound and launched a new project simply called RICHEY. The first release under his new alias was called the Cali Cali EP and it absolutely thumps in a way that proper House music should. The standout track is without a doubt “Cali Cali” but the entire five-song collection is worth your time.
Beyond the Cali Cali EP, RICHEY just released his remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Bloodstream” for FREE DOWNLOAD. With over 20,000 plays in just 10 days, this song – and artist – are poised for big things.
If you can appreciate truly awesome House music at the core of what this art form is meant to be, listen to and love RICHEY’s work. But most importantly keep your eyes on him because he certainly is going to be the next big thing!
