“You can’t live in a trap house and not trap…”
I think it’s safe to say at this point that trap music is officially a “thing”. Well, maybe more than just a thing. This style of music, which incorporates heavy bass and raspy, “trappy” snares in the form of an amalgam of crunk hip-hop beats and electronic music, has exploded on the scene over the course of the past few months and has seemingly surpassed moombahton as the fad sound of the now. I personally love it and connect with it on a more personal level, as my music tastes had leaned strongly to hip-hop before embracing electronic music. Also, it sounds so fucking gangster.
Essential Trap:
Major Lazer – Original Don (Flosstradamus Remix)
Baauer – Harlem Shake
Sleigh Bells – Demons (Diplo Remix)
Other Awesome Trap:
Kanye West – Mercy (RL Grime & Salva Remix)
Tiesto – Maximal Crazy (Drankenstein Remix)
Flosstradamus – Total Recall
Cadenza – The Darkest Hype
Darude – Sandstorm (Candyland’s OG Remix)
Flosstradamus, arguably the originators (or maybe popularizers) of trap music, put together this mix last week for Live For The Funk. It spread like wildfire shortly after it went live because it perfectly captures what is so cool about trap music. If you have yet to see Flosstradamus live, put them on the list. (I know, it’s a long list)
