Jack Beats, the British Fidget-House/Electro-House production and DJ duo with perhaps the most unique sound out there, have just released their Careless EP. A brainchild of Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts), Jack Beats are part of the new wave of British House, wobbly basslines, big breakdowns, and sharp accapellas. We have featured them a bunch recently, with their Evolution Mixtape and their remix of Flux Pavilion’s “Daydreamer” which is a much different take on the original. And now the boys are back with a seven-song EP featuring five original tracks and two instrumentals. They’ve collaborated with big guns in Diplo, Example, and Dillon Francis, with whom they managed to create a Moombahton track @ 112 bpm that shows off both artists’ styles and it’s perhaps the wobbliest Moombah track I’ve ever heard – something that comes unexpectedly as all Jack Beats songs I’ve heard were some form of House tracks.
Overall the EP has significant bounce and beat, with wobbles for days, and I’d say the general tone is a bit darker than most tracks coming out these days. But that’s not a bad thing because Jack Beats are keeping things fresh in a world where EDM has become very generic and repetitive (just read Boys Noize’s commentary on the matter). “End of Love” stands out to me only because of its Salsa style piano notes (at 1:50) playing over the beat and that’s not something you hear every day. The boys will be at Electric Zoo as part of the Fool’s Gold Clubhouse, which has a stacked lineup in artists such as A-Trak, Tommy Trash, Dillon Francis, and Nadastrom.
