Out today is the latest single from Dutch (surprised?) duo W&W, real names Willem van Hanegem and Wardt van der Harst (who is also known as Re-Ward). I’ll admit I was late to the party with these guys but I was finally turned on to them a couple months ago by my friend Matt (aka Nefarious Neville aka Naughty Nev) as we partook in some late night after party festivities. What really did it for me was their weekly Mainstage podcasts which are high-energy hour-long sets consisting of everything from Trance to Electro-House to Progressive and Big Room. It’s rare that you’ll hear someone like Tommy Trash and Dash Berlin on the same podcast but that’s what makes these guys so enjoyable to listen to. Combine that with their stellar yet distinct productions that straddle the line between Trance and Electro-House (similar to what guys like Norin & Rad and Gareth Emery are doing these days) and you have a recipe for dance music success. “Lift Off!” has some hard-hitting bass with Trancey leads and a vocal sample that sounds like it was taken from a shuttle launch – and I like all three of those things. W&W were voted #25 on the DJ Mag Top 100 this year which means the world already knows what these guys bring to the table. And with their own label (Mainstage Music) functioning as an imprint of Armin Van Buuren’s Armada Music there will be no shortage of tunes to come in the near future.
For the past 10 weeks W&W have been a Beatport Top 10 staple on the Trance charts for a couple of their remixes. One of those remixes is the awesome “Waiting“, originally produced by Dash Berlin a couple years ago. But W&W have put their signature touch on this track with a grimy bass line that still manages to keep the track honest with melodic breaks and the beautiful vocals of Emma Hewitt. And if you really want to see why I like this song, skip ahead to 3:50. This track may not be new today but we’ve yet to post it so enjoy it if you haven’t heard it and make sure to grab it on Beatport if you like what you hear!
