Snowball 2013 in Review

Well it has been an amazing winter for EDM, filled with amazing festivals, cruises, and shows from coast to coast. Definitely the busiest winter to date yet for us here at MMIBTY.com. We were extremely fortunate to cover Snowball Music Festival earlier in the month and want to give a big thanks to Live Loud CO for all their support and for putting on an amazing event. With its new location in Winter Park, Colorado the festival went about as smooth as one could imagine. Plentiful amounts of affordable housing, awesome after parties, a great venue and a line up to boot made for an absolutely epic three day weekend in the rockies. Friday night left us all a little muddy, but after Kendrick and Big Gigantic closed the night out on the main stage, I couldn’t have cared less about the hundred dollar pair of shoes I had just ruined.

As I woke up on saturday morning, under the dining room table, where I had found just enough floor space to call home for the night. I couldn’t have been more excited then to make my way to the SnowBrunch, A benefit for the Colorado non-violence work done by Phoenix 999. I was kindly greeted at the door by the girls of Quarterly Karma and Early Bird Night Owl with a bag of fun gifts and massive breakfast buffet and bloody mary bar. Combined with some great live music from the likes of Flashlights and Steffi Graf this was exactly what I needed to get my engine started again.

As we made our way down to the festival grounds, the ten inches of fresh snow nipping at our heels and the Colorado sun shining brighter then ever, I knew we were in for another epic night. Although Friday night was a mud fest, Saturday had something different in mind for us. As the hoards of concert goers began to stomp around and rage we witnessed as ten inches of fresh powder was quickly transformed into an absolute skating rink. Although this was mildly hilarious at times, I hope everyone made it out of there with out any lasting injuries as we were witness to some serious spills that night. Pretty Lights closed out the night with a set that spanned his entire career and hit on every track that any true PL fan cherishes. Not only did Derek’s mom make it out for the show but so did the whole extended Pretty Lights Colorado family. Making for a crowd truly united by their love shared for the music, what more could you ask for?

Sunday came quickly, as I pulled myself out of “bed” I quickly began to realize last nights icy conditions as well as other things had taken a pretty solid toll on my body. The sun was out though and temperatures were rising quickly, with Flosstradamus and Surfer Blood on my list of things to do I headed back down to the venue. Sunday was the most gorgeous of the three days, and with a much warmer night then the previous one the stage was set for STS9 to send Colorado on their way as they closed out the weekend with a stellar set.

Be sure to check out Photos from all 3 days below, and tag yourself if you were lucky enough to get in front of the Mic Shots lense! Be sure to check out the most recent installment of The Hot Sh*t radio show on Sirius XM from Pretty Lights below, as well as Big G’s tribute track to Colorado that had the crowd going insane on Friday night. We hope you had as much fun as we did this year at Snowball and we look forward to seeing all your beautiful faces again next year!
