Roughly a month ago, I posted about a Cityfox label showcase that I attended in New York. While that post focused mostly on the headliner Mark Henning, there were plenty of other noteworthy performers. Among the artists in attendance (Mark Henning, Digitaline, Markus Lindner) Swiss duo Adriatique gave a knockout performance. Overall, there are some very good sounds coming out of Switzerland (look no further than Cityfox records). Adriatique’s productions have enjoyed a significant amount of hype over the past few months with EP releases on Solomun’s near-unstoppable Diynamic imprint and Culprit respectively. I am inclined to agree with the hype because the past two EP’s released have been absolutely awesome, and these guys are rapidly climbing the list of my favorite producers. Specifically, I’d like to discuss the massive Face to Face EP that just dropped on Culprit. This EP rocks from start to finish; it’s got Maceo Plex sex appeal with some hip-hop and funk stylings. Moreover, it brings some serious deep bass lines that will no doubt ruin dance floors.“Face to Face” is the first track on the EP, and it also provides its namesake. I love the vocal hook and the west coast hip hop “Zapp and Roger” inspired bass line, a very catchy track from start to finish. I also love “Black Box” with its catchy guitar riff and generally psychedelic, wonky sounds; this track just about captures what I love in deep house right now. Props to Adriatique for another great release, I’m expecting big things from them in the coming year. I’ve included the EP and an a mix that was done for Diynamic Radio Show last month. Enjoy.
