When I saw last week that Baauer was going to be remixing a Disclosure track, “You & Me”, I immediately became interested in what it would sound like. As with many dance music fans around the world, Disclosure have quickly climbed to the top of my go-to list when looking for unique and feel-good Deep House (or Dance Pop or Two-Step or Breaks…) music. The Brits came to the forefront over the last year and have truly made a name for themselves. On the flip side, Baauer has done the same thing with the Trap music world (and I’m talking about more than just the “Harlem Shake”).
Enter Disclosure’s “You & Me” featuring Eliza Doolittle. A fun, feel-good track with a Breaks and Two-Step beat that really gets the body moving. Honestly, it’s perfect the way it is as an original mix. But Baauer put his mark on it for something a little edgier, something with a little more bounce. It certainly hits harder, but I don’t know if I’d consider it Trap music, at least what we’ve all come to know Trap music as. Baauer’s version keeps the Breaks/Two-Step feel and pitches-up Eliza’s vocals. The new chipmunk vocals are my one complaint with the remix, as they were originally too good to be touched. I understand in order to make this track what it is the vocals had to be pitched-up, but I don’t necessarily love it (although the chopped-up section around 3:15 is pretty cool).
The track was slated to be released yesterday, although I can’t find any links to purchase it. Make sure you support the artists if you like what you hear!
