For those of you who don’t know, Dance Music veteran Kaskade got his start by producing Deep House and Lounge music via his debut album It’s You, It’s Me. Released in 2003, It’s You It’s Me was a 13-track collection of deep, groovy, and soulful music. Although most of the tracks have a 4-on-the-floor beat, they don’t sound like or feel like what you may know House music as. Almost every song has serenading vocals and smooth bass lines, best enjoyed late at night or in posh hotel lobbies. In honor of the 10-year anniversary of Kaskade’s debut album, he just wrapped up a nine-city U.S. tour, dubbed the It’s You It’s Me Redux tour.
The tour stopped in major U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington, and Los Angeles and all of them sold out. These were intimate shows with Kaskade spinning Deep House/Lounge tracks from his earlier days as well as edits, remixes, and general songs that fit into the overall vibe. Kaskade thought it was especially fitting that Deep House is making a come-back, having prime crowds for the sets (see Tweet below). The final show in San Diego spanned three hours and Kaskade recorded the whole thing, editing the live mix down to the best 100 minutes (complete with crowd interaction), released yesterday. There were no bangers here, no festival anthems – just straight smooth tunes mixed seamlessly into each other. A standout track, for example, is Kaskade’s Late Night Alumni Redux Mix of “Raining” which I think I like far better than the original because it’s so funky. I wish I had been in attendance for one of these shows, but I’m glad Kaskade did us the favor of releasing his set from San Diego. I’m left wondering if some people in attendance expected the Kaskade we currently hear at shows and were surprised by the unique format of the Redux tour.
