As summer’s inevitable glory draws nearer, we are growing exponentially more excited for the activities to come on Chicago’s wonderful lakefront. Yet again we will mercilessly plug what is sure to be one of the festival events of the summer, Wavefront Music Festival in Chicago, IL. With this in mind, we will once again feature Wavefront artists for today’s deep house and techno digest. This time we have sets from UK tastemakers Scuba (Paul Rose) [Hotflush] and Jamie Jones [Hot Creations]. Both of these gents head up two of the most cutting edge record labels around currently, and the recent body of work is nothing short of riveting. Hot Creations currently mines some of the finest deep house in the business while Hotflush edges more towards the experimental techno and bass side of things. I recently had the pleasure of taking in a Scuba set at Chicago’s Spybar on a cold Thursday night in March and the atmosphere was quite proper. Scuba sliced relentlessly through dubby techno, UK garage, bass, and deep house in a beautiful and thoughtful set that espoused the unique sound of his label and his recent 2012 LP release, Personality. His Tsugi podcast that we are featuring today does exactly that, with highlights that include: Close Ft Scuba – Beam Me Up (George FitzGerald remix, Burnski – Lost In The Zoo (Martinez Brothers remix), Mano Le Tough- Started Running, and Deetron – Out Of My Head (George FitzGerald remix).

Last, but certainly not least we have Jamie Jones’ set from the annual Timewarp Festival held in Mannheim, Germany. On this outing the Hot Creations boss/ Hot Natured bad boy throws down a tight set of jackin’ house beats that ooze his signature style. This set is pure, unadulterated house and Jamie Jones once again shows why he is at the top of this latest class of British world-beating DJs. From the squelched-out acidity of Tin Man- Sexy to Maetrik/Maceo-Plex’s gutter anthem, The Poem, Jamie keeps it upbeat with the occasional flirtation with deep, punishing darkness; this set is a silver bullet of classic house with fresh and modern infusions. Let’s also give Robert James’ Reverse Skydiving remix it’s due praise, featured on MMIBTY earlier this week. Big ups. PS: Please forgive the “in progress” track list.
