During the previous weekend Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood was lucky enough to witness the return of 19th annual Westword Music Showcase. With over a 150 plus local artists set to play throughout the city all day long and the sun shining brightly we took to the streets for what would prove to be one hell of a day of music! After a coffee and some eggs we made our way to Vinyl Nightclub to enjoy the gorgeous rooftop views combined with a 2pm set by Denver’s own Vinnie Maniscalco. Vinnie has been making some serious waves in the Colorado bass music scene, be sure to check out his Soundcloud and his newest track TaKillya. After Vinnie and much to our surprise, as it wasn’t on the bill, it was time for Elm and Oak’s own Raw Russ to take over the decks. Russ worked through his set moving flawlessly from one classic hip hop and rap track to the next, while inter-weaving a plethora of his own fresh bass lines and beats.
After a much needed meal and about a gallon of water, we headed down to City Hall Auditorium to catch a great set from Denver locals and great friends of MMIBTY, FLASH/LIGHTS. After a stellar performance full of new music from FLASH/LIGHTS, it was finally time to board our flight to Dada Land. As the Swedish duo took the stage Denver absolutely erupted and we all knew we were in for one hell of a time. Giving us samples of everything new and the old, from Boing Clash Boom to Happy Violence, the Swedes left it all on stage giving us exactly the performance we were looking for.
As the outdoor section of the showcase came to a close for the day, we made our way back to Capitol Hill to catch Crookers at City Hall, and maybe I am just getting to old for this scene, but I quickly found myself relocating to Beauty Bar for The Hundreds weekly event. Greeted at the door by the funky sounds of Option 4 we knew we had found our final destination to close out the day. After Option 4 got the crowd moving with one of his classic super upbeat and fun house sets, it was time for LA’s newest romantic, Le Youth. Le Youth, aka Wes James has definitely created a niche sound in this world of DJs. With an arsenal of 90’s R&B and Hip Hop at his disposal Le Youth began to serenade the crowd. Be sure to grab the Dada Life Boing Clash Boom remix pack below, also check out the Solé Fixtape below from Le Youth to get an even better sense of what went down at Beauty Bar on saturday. Big ups and many thanks to all the artists, The Westword, the City of Denver and all of the venues that participated for making this weekend so amazing!
