“I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her.” Many of us know these lyrics from the 1995 hip-hop jam, “I wish” by hip-hip and rap artist Skee-Lo. The original hit has a fantastic beat and bassline that is sure to get your head boppin and get everyone dancing in the club. Skee-Lo’s lyrics and delivery complete the song and make it an instant classic. When I saw Meaux Green did a remix of this song, I was really excited to see how his remix would compare to the original.
Meaux Green producers a little bit of everything, but recently he’s been on fire with his trap/twerk remixes and original mixes. So when I saw he remixed “I Wish,” I figured it would be some kind of trap or twerk tune. The remix starts out by sampling the well-known lyrics and beat of the original song. However, the song quickly starts to build and drops into a heavy trap/twerk tune that is sure to get you moving. During this part you can still hear Skee-Lo’s chopped-up vocals which sound very good and flow well with the melody. I love the fact that Meaux Green keeps it very uptempo because it keeps the remix exciting, and it makes you want more. The track then gracefully fades back to the original beat and lyrics again for a little bit to bring back more 90s hip-hop nostalgia. Then it’s back to the great trap/twerk sequence which I cannot stop listening to because it’s so unique. Meaux Green really nailed this remix, and he definitely did not disappoint Skee-Lo. I’m super excited to see what he will cook up next, and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.
