Jim and Ray, the two men who make up the Dutch duo Sick Individuals, have had quite the…sick…. year plus. Going from up-and-comer status to an established household name in the dance music world, the Sick Individuals don’t seem to ever miss. One of my favorite pieces of work by the two was their remix of Icona Pop’s “I Love It”, turning the original pop anthem into an absolute banger. And that’s really why I like these guys so much – they have a hard-hitting Big Room and Progressive House sound, but they manage to keep it unique and fresh when a lot of other artists are producing more generic-sounding tracks. Most recently the Sick Individuals have released Beatport chart-topping hits with Axwell and Dannic as well as remixes for David Guetta & Rihanna and Nervo & Hook n’ Sling. It seems these guys just don’t stop as they’re always coming out with new high-quality releases.
Back at the end of July the Sick Individuals released their Drum Machine/Chase EP featuring two songs – “Drum Machine” and “Chase”. Neither of these songs is a cheesy hands-in-the-air main stage anthem. Instead, the tracks show the listener just how polished the boys’ sound is. “Chase” has an infectious melody but the drop is too good – almost bordering the line of Electro and Funk and contains elements of older Hardwell songs. “Drum Machine” is pure gold with Acid roots and a vocal hook that screams “Ooooh Yeaaaah”. “Drum Machine”, to me, almost feels like a Swedish-produced song but it’s quite good as well and these two songs fit perfectly together. If you’re in need of some hard-hitting DJ tools to get the dance floors moving, but you want to shy away from all that generic Go To War, triplet-infused music, look no further!
The Sick Individuals also have a radio show on SoundCloud as well as other mixes and releases that will undoubtedly occupy your time. You can grab the EP from Beatport HERE. Enjoy!
