Artist Spotlight: Fon.Leman

fon.leman

I haven’t written an artist spotlight in a hot minute but I think now is the perfect time to introduce you to Russian producer and DJ Fon.Leman. Fon.Leman is an alias of Alexey Mazhaev from Ekaterinburg, Russia and he has truly perfected the art of Progressive House. I first caught wind of Fon.Leman when Above & Beyond played his remix of Cramp’s “Bombay” on Group Therapy 002. The “Bombay” remix is so distinctive with its vocal samples, yet it has quite a refreshing true Progressive House sound and was certainly a standout track during that two-hour podcast. Last weekend, on December 6th, Above & Beyond unleashed its latest Group Therapy podcast and the guest mix was by none other than Fon.Leman. Not only was Fon.Leman’s 30-minute mix an absolute pleasure to listen to, I also learned he would be releasing his newest album the following Monday, called Constant Religion.

Fon.Leman started to take interest in Electronic music when he was 13, and soon under the influence of Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Hybrid, and the Crystal Method in 1998 he tried Breaks. After the appearance of music sequencers, and the increasing popularity of dance music, Fon.Leman switched his attention to Industrial, Trance, and Techno while mixing genres and working toward a devotion of his very own style. Fon.Leman also experimented with real sounds recorded at railway stations and construction sites.

Over the duration of his career, Fon.Leman combined all of his music experiences, and currently his favorite styles are Trance and Progressive. Most people call his music “Ibiza Style” for its deepness and transparency, but I just call it near-perfection. Over the past week I’ve been listening to Fon.Leman’s Group Therapy guest mix, his new album Constant Religion, and his flawless Dimension & Perception mixes available on his podcasts.

Fon.Leman may just be the best Progressive House producer you’ve never heard of so make sure you show him some love and support the growth of his career.
