Five Crucial Mixes (As If You Weren’t Already Excited for NYE)

Colourful 2014 in fiery sparklers
Already tired of scrolling through all things “Best of 2013?” MMIBTY has solutions: five crucial mixes to help you make it to 2014. Three days ago, Josh Butler gave us a great teaser mix to get us excited for FOUND Music Festival in London this upcoming June. Now, if you haven’t been to London but have been meaning to, this is right up your alley. Last year FOUND was held at Haggerston Park in Shoreditch; a pretty happening area with a great arts scene all around. The last time I was in Shoreditch during the summer I was lucky enough to check out a club tucked away in a disused urban railway yard on Rivington Street called Cargo. I couldn’t tell you for the life of me who was DJing that night but what I can tell you is that it’s got a pretty cool layout and it looks like they’ve got quite the New Year’s party planned with Russ Yallop & Ceri (both of Hot Creations) playing and a “free zombie after party” starting at 6am!

Anyway, this year’s occurrence of FOUND starts at 11am and goes until 9pm on Saturday the 14th, but some quality pre- and after-parties are sure to sprout up as the lineup won’t be released until January 30th. If next year is anything like this year, though, chances are attendees will have the pleasure of gettin’ down to the likes of Amine Edge & DANCE, Audiojack, Betoko, Breach, Deetron, Huxley, Lee Foss (last year he played b2b with MK!), Maya Jane Coles, Shadow Child, Subb-an, wAFF, Waifs & Strays, or Wolf + Lamb!

And here’s a nice little official recap video of FOUND 2013.

Okay, I promised I wouldn’t get all teary-eyed and reminisce about the greatest songs of 2013, but in case you feel like hearing a handful of familiar deep jams mixed in with a bunch of other really rad tracks, we’ve got the perfect 2+ hour set for you to download: Hoj live from Robot Heart at Burning Man 2013! On Hoj’s Facebook page, his info reads simply “smooth grooves” so listen for yourself and I guarantee you’ll agree:

Still with me? Alright, good. Next up we’ve got another brand new promo mix, this one mixed by Waifs & Strays for their NYE party at fabric! Check it out:

Okay, I know we usually specialize in providing single songs and such, but we’ve all got long drives, flights, train rides, and/or parties approaching, so forgive me for squeezing in two more smashing mixes that are available for free download… Second to last it’s: SlamRadio episode 63 by Slam! I never tire of the driving, stimulating house & techno this pair of Scotsmen puts out!

Last, but indubitably not least, we’ve got a killer mix by Sonny Wharton, a big up-and-coming Producer/DJ in the UK. This guest mix for Funk’n Deep (I strongly suggest you follow their Soundcloud account because their “repost” game is top notch–from mixes to teasers to downloadable tracks) features three edits and two original tracks by Mr Wharton himself. The podcast starts out with Joyce Muniz’s sweet take on Maya Jane Coles’s newest “Burning Bright” and provides nearly an hour of fun house, tech house, and deep house including Wharton’s own edit of Kolombo’s jackin’ “Throw Your Hands.”

BONUS #1: Just found another Burning Man set that was recently uploaded. wAFF shreds it at sunrise at Black Rock!

BONUS #2: Since it’s the season of giving, I figured I might as well share with you a mix I threw together the other day. It got chopped three hours and eighteen minutes in, but thankfully there are only two files to it. From deep house to techno to nudisco and tech house, “AV8 Sessions: A December to Remember” should keep you going for several hours! Toss this on at your next party for sure 🙂

Thanks for sticking around. See you next week!
