Perhaps two of my favorite DJs in dance music stop at Boston’s Royale Nightclub this Thursday as part of the Damage Control World Tour: Mat Zo and Treasure Fingers. Named after and in support of Zo’s new album Damage Control, the 24-date bus tour began on Halloween, runs until December 21, and stops at some of the country’s biggest and best clubs. Damage Control debuted at #1 on the iTunes Dance charts and was #1 on the Billboard Heatseeker/Top New Artist chart during the same week. Zo has always been at the top of my producer and DJ list, noted for his exceptional and unique work over the years. I love Zo’s polished sound in the studio, compiling dance floor gems that sound unlike any other artist’s work. Songs like “Bipolar”, “Mozart”, “Superman”, “Rebound”, and “Pyramid Scheme” are some of my favorite original works in dance music and Zo’s remixes of songs like Empire of the Sun’s “Alive” and Tate & Diamond’s “Electrified” show his ability to think outside the box. And then there are Mat Zo’s live sets and DJ mixes. I’ve always appreciated Zo’s flare for playing his own mashups live that often combine multiple songs that you’d never image pair perfectly together. Mat Zo’s Essential Mix was one of the best I’ve ever heard and managed to span all genres of dance music in rapid-fire fashion.
The Damage Control Tour features multiple supporting artists. Boston is lucky enough to be treated to the Disco stylings of Treasure Fingers this Thursday (check out his latest song with The Knocks, “My Body”). I’ve been listening to Treasure Fingers’ productions, live sets, and mixes over the years and I’m never anything short of impressed. I finally had the chance to see Treasure Fingers throw down a set at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC last year as part of the Electric Zoo after parties. While most of the venue cleared out after Hardwell’s set, a smart couple hundred people hung around for a late-night funky and Disco-infused set that kept us moving til 5am. Treasure Fingers isn’t quite the household name that Mat Zo is, but if you plan on going out this Thursday make sure to get to Royale early to be impressed by his set.
Tickets for the show are still available by clicking HERE. Doors are at 8pm and it’s 18+. I’ve been excited for this one for months and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone there! Check out some selected tunes below.
