At the end of every Year In Review series we do (three years running) the founding team shares its thoughts on what our favorite songs from the past 365 days were. This is when a MMIBTY reader can see how much diversity there is among the group, because even though the four of us have a common ground, it’s evident our favorite selections vary from one another.
Check out what each founder/editor has to say about the year that was 2013.
2013 was a year that saw my tastes gravitate toward the more underground side of Dance Music. While my tastes, in general, stayed the same, I dived further into the world of Deep House more than I ever had, as evidenced by my trip to Chicago for the Wavefront Music Festival. While I often preferred Electro-House, I decided that not everything I listened to had to be pure red-lining bangers. Not only was 2013 a year during which I became more interested in the underground, it was also a year when I became more infatuated by masters of Progressive House and especially the artists in the Pryda Friends camp. Eric Prydz unleashed his 2013 Essential Mix and to this very day I still listen to it as often as I can – it was also wisely chosen as Essential Mix of the year by BBC Radio 1. Guys like Fehrplay and Jeremy Olander continue to get better and better and I made sure to take a particular interest in their music this year.
