Aaand we’re back! Sure, it’s only been two days since we’ve given out one of our magical goodybags, but since I skipped a week and have three days off in a row, I’m pulling some grown-up shit and banging this out today, finally go to the gym tomorrow, and then I can just mix records nonstop after that. So, this time I’ve made things a bit easier because all of the tracks and mixes in today’s bag are straight from Soundcloud, that way you can download, heart/like, repost, message, follow, or do anything else you can think of right from the comfort of the Soundcloud widget on our lovely page!
Today the bag is heavy; chock full of weird and funky deep house, tech house, tribal tech, techno, house, and everything in between. I didn’t realize as I went along but there is certainly a good amount of vocal tracks (especially the first few) this time, both female and male, new school and old! Tip of the hat to DurtysoxXx for his Funk Like Dat edit of “Rebirth of Slick” staying true to the classic hip house sound while breathing new life into it.
The assortment of mixes we have in this fourth magical publication is top notch. We start things off with two hours of Sian (Octopus Recordings) live in Barcelona, then get a dose of Arjun Vagale by way of Boris and his Transmissions podcast. If you live in Chicago or will be around on March 1st, be sure to catch Boris play at Spybar!
Moving along, we are graced with the sounds of Italian techno maestro Joseph Capriati, this time a live recording from BPM Festival just a few weeks ago. Again, if you live in Chicago or happen to stop by on Friday, March 7th, do not miss his set that night at Spybar. If you’re 21, you have no reason not to go because as a MMIBTY reader, you can enjoy FREE ENTRY to this event! Ladies pay no cover all night, and guys only have to pay ten dollars if you (stupidly) arrive after midnight. Detroit native and Chicago favorite Jason Patrick is on warm-up duties, so even if you get there right at ten you’re gonna have a blast. All you’ve got to do is say “Oxtavius” at the door!
Second to last out of the goodybag is BLOND:ISH‘s 6 hour set from Stereo in Montreal recorded January 25th. These ladies ripped up Spybar on Friday with Maher Daniel and Eric Volta. Check out the pics here (as if you didn’t believe it was a good time).
Wrapping things up for Oxtavius Magical Goodybag 004 is a great Producer/DJ duo out of LA called Low Tide with the fourth episode of their Touch of Class podcast. Nice and deep. Cannonball!
