Australian electronic music has had nothing short of a renaissance as of late, all in thanks to a diverse range of young producers pushing the boundaries of dance music far past its current formulaic, drop-filled, stagnant state. With the rumors recently confirmed that Flume‘s side project with Emoh Instead, What So Not, will be releasing an EP in collaboration with Skrillex in the near future, the mainstream has certainly taken notice, and are liking what they hear.
PILERATS Records has every intention to stay true to their roots though, having just released this eclectic compilation featuring artists like Odesza, Vaski, Sable and Ryan Hemsworth, just to name a few. The Perth-based label/magazine/blog/collective dropped the compilation for through their Bandcamp earlier today for name-your-own-price, which, translated for you cheap kids, means free.
My favorite tracks off PILERATS Rat Pack #1 are Odesza’s “Sun Models,” Sable’s “Master Key” and Chiefs x Vaski’s “On That Fly” but all twelve tracks offer something different and aurally interesting that I know I will get tons more enjoyment out of.
