Unknown Associates – Rolling Stones (Original + Remixes)

rollingstones

Last week I posted about the Sydney-based music label Unknown Records and one of their artists Colour Castle. Thanks to my new friend Boyd, who I met aboard Holy Ship!!!, I’ve been opened up to a whole new world of fantastic music from the land down under. The latest release on Unknown Records is called “Rolling Stones” by the Unknown Associates. The release contains the original mix of “Rolling Stones” and features remix work by Just Regular Guys, Nadisko, Swiss, and Diego Slim.

The Unknown Associates’ original mix of “Rolling Stones” is a sure fire dance floor weapon. It’s not quite G-House, but the chopped-and-skewed vocal hook and gigantic bass lines remind me of something guys like Amine Edge & Dance would play in one of their sets. Each remix of “Rolling Stones” features different artists offering their take on the track (all remixers are from Australia except for Just Regular Guys who are from the Netherlands). The common thread is that all remixes take the Unknown Associates’ vocal sample and rework the productions in different ways, and they all remain House tracks. I’m partial to the Nadisko remix as well as the Diego Slim remix but all five tracks are really worth your time in some capacity – it’s really just a matter of opinion which one you like best. Enjoy!
