Ten years ago, Chromeo first appeared and was lovingly taken in by many as a mere guilty pleasure – an 80s pastiche band with an undeniably catchy worldwide hit, “Needy Girl”. It seemed like nothing had changed as we flash forward a decade to watching them play their newest pop singles to a whole new fan base last week at the House of Blues in Boston. The duo came out to party, not only playing some of their classics like Bonafide Lovin, but appeasing the crowds with hit singles from the recently released “White Women” album. The fans sung along as Sexy Socialite and Come Alive blasted through the rafters all culminating with a raucous rendition of this summers’ hottest track, Jealous (I Ain’t With It). The set in total was fifteen tracks over the course of an hour and a half leaving no one in attendance disappointed, disco truly never died.
We must note that the opening set by Oliver was extremely solid however the sound hadn’t been turned up all the way, so many in attendance barely paid attention. This was extremely disappointing because Iliver is one of the most talented acts in the rising genre of nu-disco so we hope to see them come back to Boston soon.
