2014 has been the year of tropical house, and we have Thomas Jack to thank for that.
The 20-year-old Australian DJ and producer seemingly came out of nowhere, but over the past several months his Tropical House mixtape series has taken the internet by storm, and for good reason. Simply put, Thomas Jack‘s mixtapes establish himself as one of the most talented young artists on the planet. His mixing is flawless, taking listeners on an uplifting journey through the many realms of house music, and all of it with his signature tropical twist, often meaning saxophones, pan flutes, and other tropical instruments that us city folk don’t usually hear too often.
Sometimes the music is dark and deep, while other times it’s cheery and catchy (and still deep, of course). The last two tropical house volumes featured guest mixes from Bakermat and Klingande, but Thomas Jack is finally back at it again for Volume 5. It just so happens that Volume 5 is also Thomas Jack’s deepest mix yet. The heavy bassline thumps at a steady pace throughout the 2+ hour mix, seamlessly transitioning from one house banger to another.
Unfortunately, Visa issues prevented Thomas Jack from doing his US tour earlier this year, but it looks like he’ll be making it out here very soon, with shows in San Francisco, Denver, and Palm Springs already announced.
In any case, Thomas Jack’s Tropical House Vol. 5, like the 4 volumes before it, is house music at its finest. Oh, and it’s all free to download via SoundCloud! Stay tropical, friends.
