This past Friday, the day after everyone in America (hopefully including Prydz himself) stuffed their faces with turkey and all the trimmings, Eric Prydz descended on Boston’s Royale nightclub to deliver a pounding and memorable set. The show had been sold out for weeks leading up to the date, which seems to be something of a rarity in the Boston music scene, especially with the wealth of shows that take place on a weekly basis. So the buzz was definitely red hot.
The venue was packed to the brim with eager fans and when Prydz hit the stage, his set did not disappoint. Prydz opened with tracks from his Techno moniker, Cirez D, and didn’t waste any time throwing absolute destroyers at the crowd. I was expecting some of Prydz’s poppier/more main stream tracks but lucky for us we were treated to the sounds of an artist who has really separated himself from the rest of the pack. Something about Eric Prydz’s sets always give off a unique vibe and this one was no exception; he played a varied mix of newer and older material while executing mixing and transitions flawlessly. We even got to hear the “On/Off” mashup he combines with “Lazer Beams” except this time it was an edit he’s been playing during shows. Prydz tour is currently over but he has a few events planned in sunny California to ring in the New Year. If you get the chance to check him out live, definitely do not miss it!
