Today’s post has a special place in my heart. Without boring you too much about my adolescent days, there was a time when I had to memorize the lyrics of Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” to compete in a lip sync contest. While I don’t remember the results of the contest, held at my summer camp in Westwood, MA, I surely remember the lyrics of “Virtual Insanity”. Jamiroquai’s track, probably their most popular to date, was released in 1996 and won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a duo or group. You can imagine my excitement when I saw the Noisy Freaks would be releasing their unique twist on a classic sing-along track.
Anyone who’s been paying attention to my posts lately knows I’m all aboard the Noisy Freaks train, a discovery by supreme talent Gramatik. When I saw a message in my inbox combining the sheer funk goodness of Noisy Freaks with one of my personal favorite tracks of the 90s, there was no doubt in my mind it wouldn’t be spectacular – and I was right. It’s hard to categorize the remix as far as genre of dance music. I’d call it something like Nu Disco or Electro-Funk, or even French Funk, but whatever you want to name it, there’s no question it’s a home run. Funny thing is, the remix doesn’t resemble the original version of “Virtual Insanity” too closely, but there are certainly elements that remain. And for fans of saxophone, slap-bass, and vocoder, you’re in the right place!
The track will be available for FREE DOWNLOAD in 48 hours so stay tuned! Do yourself a favor and listen through more of the NF’s music, and make sure to show them some love!
