The weekend isn’t over yet and I’m already extremely excited for Hushfest: Ocean Beach this coming Saturday June 6th. The newly-formed HushConcerts, a collaboration between San Francisco companies Silent Frisco and SunsetSF, is bringing its silent disco back to Ocean Beach right here in San Francisco. Having never been much of a silent disco fan, that has all changed since moving to the Bay Area last year. HUSHConcerts throws down in the best way possible and after back to back weekends dancing at the quietest party in existence – Lightning in a Bottle and Bottlerock Napa – I’m looking forward to the hat trick next weekend.
It’s hard to say what makes these silent discos so special but having experienced them in the Redwoods of Northern California, on the ice of San Francisco’s Embarcadero skating rink, and up in the lush fields of Napa county, one thing remains true – you WILL dance. While Napa’s Bottlerock Music Festival is known for bringing some of music’s biggest names to wine country, I easily had some of the most fun of the weekend over at the HUSHConcerts stage, which was presented in collaboration with Anchor Brewing. The best performance of the day was Lettuce, who brought us nonstop funk featuring Adam Deitch on drums, of Break Science and Pretty Lights’ touring band. But when my crew wanted to spend our time dancing, the silent disco was a no-brainer.
HUSHConcerts has an extensive events calendar for 2015, but one of those events has been circled on my calendar for quite some time, and that’s the one down at Ocean Beach. Not only will the party last from 11am to 7pm, but it features one of my personal favorite San Francisco DJs: Dirtybird co-founder Christian Martin. It’s not often I get to attend a silent disco featuring a world-renowned DJ, so that’s what makes this one more exciting. Beyond that? You have many other DJs laying down their hand-picked tracks to make you dance: JPOD the beat chef, Stickybuds, Sleight of Hands, Floorwax feat. Motion Potion & DJ Zeph, Gravity (Pink Mammoth), Nominus, Dj Mancub, Shouts!, and Kiddo Disco by Matt Haze.
If you’ve already been to one of HUSHConcerts’ awesome events or stages you already know what’s up. If you haven’t, this Saturday is your perfect chance to get your feet wet. I’ve been told it’s also BYOB and there should be some food trucks, so make a day of it and come on down.
HUSHConcerts writes: As always we will kick off the day with a Kiddo Disco. Family’s welcome. KIDS (12 & under) & DOGS FREE. RESPONSIBLE behavior required. SHOES not recommended.
