GRiZ is arguably one of the hottest acts in electronic music these days and whether he’s releasing new music or headlining a festival, there’s always a buzz around him. The best part about GRiZ is that for as big as the 25-year-old Detroit native has gotten he hasn’t sold out and if anything has become more humble. Hell, GRiZ performed at seven shows and five music festivals in just four days and I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone have as much fun in a tour recap video – maybe more fun than the people in his audiences. Just a few days ago GRiZ released the remixes EP of his single “For The Love” featuring veteran lyricist Talib Kweli, originally found on his latest album Say It Loud (released April 2015).
The original version of “For The Love” is a Future Soul gem that encapsulates GRiZ’s amazing sound – a sound that is hard to find these days in any type music, let alone dance/electronic music. On the remixes album there are four new takes on “For The Love” and each one is quite unique. The standout for me is surely Autograf’s remix – another electronic act that is exploding right now. It’s hard to categorize Autograf’s version but it’s beautiful and melodic and has a really nice drop – complete with pianos and live drums. Runner-up, in my opinion, goes to Big Wild with his version that is super funky and contains some great percussion and Hammond B3 organ work. Naderi lays down some Future Bass on his version, which is lots of fun as well. I got to say that Buku leaves me a bit stumped but, again, it’s a unique version and judging by GRiZ’s survey to ask fans which they like the best, he’s certainly at the top. Buku’s version goes pretty ham and if you want something heavy go listen to his version.
All of these tracks, as usual, are available for free download. You can grab the EP over at GRiZ’s official store and make sure to show him some love, and these other artists some love, if you like what you hear!
