Mat Zo Brings Disco Funk With First Single Off ‘Self Assemble’ [FREE DOWNLOAD] + New Wolfgang Gartner

Mat Zo has many faces when it comes to the type of music he produces. (Speaking of Mat Zo’s face, I couldn’t help but use the above picture for this post, as the savant prepares to release his second full length album next month (March 25)). Zo has released everything from Soul/Funk to Trance to Electro-House and even break beats/Drum n’ Bass. I fell in love with Mat Zo’s music when he was in the Trance world under Anjunabeats, but even then his brand of music was unlike any other dance music producer out there and that’s what I liked so much about him – how he stayed edgy and unique.

Mat Zo’s first album, Damage Control, was simply fantastic, and the Essential Mix he released back in 2013 is still one of the best ever. I was delighted to hear the first single off Zo’s forth-coming album Self Assemble because it’s in one of my favorite styles from the Brit, who now resides in LA. I’m talking super disco funky, similar to Zo’s track with the Knocks called “Get Down 2 Get Up”. The new track, leased a few days ago, is properly called “Soul Food” and it really tickles the ear drums in just the right way, featuring some fun Mat Zo sounds that could easily be used in Trance or other genres of dance music.

Definitely go grab “Soul Food” and keep your eyes out for more releases as the date for Self Assemble quickly approaches!

***BONUS***

Thanks to SoundCloud’s “related tracks” feature, I was reminded of Wolfgang Gartner’s equally as funky disco track “Speed of Sound”. For those who don’t know, Wolfgang Gartner is back, having just released his new album 10 Ways to Steal Home Plate. Anyone who knows my tastes in dance music knows I was a massive Wolfgang fan a few years back when he was putting out his gems, and it’s great to hear new stuff from the legend. And it’s very fitting that this track comes after a new Mat Zo jam, as Zo often plays Wolfgang Gartner tracks in his live sets.
