Can you believe Halloween weekend is already a month away? Can I believe I enter my 30s in the same timeframe? The answer to both questions is: not really. But alas here we are. To celebrate my 30th birthday and Halloween weekend all in one, the MMIBTY team is heading down to New Orleans for the 19th edition of the The Voodoo Music + Arts Experience (formerly “The Voodoo Music Experience”, commonly referred to as Voodoo or Voodoo Fest).
Voodoo Fest may be one of the lesser-known music festivals in America, especially with events like Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras taking the spotlight in New Orleans, but this three-day experience has featured thousands of big-name artists across genres and has been nominated twice for Pollstar’s Music Festival of the Year.
While our focus here at MMIBTY is electronic and dance music, Voodoo Fest offers something for everyone – and I’m looking forward to experiencing all kinds of music across the weekend. Headliners Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, and LCD Soundsystem are all on the list for me and then fun really starts when I roll my sleeves up and pick through the list of artists performing across Voodoo Fest 2017.
In no particular order I’m excited to see: RL Grime, Mija, Illenium, Marian Hill, Prophets of Rage (possibly my favorite live show of 2016), Louis the Child, Nghtmre, G Jones, Joyride, Boombox Cartel, SNBRN, and Tokimonsta.
For a House junky like me there’s certainly a lack of 4×4 beats on deck for the weekend, but no matter I have faith that Voodoo Fest will deliver on a birthday celebration better than any I’ve had so far.
Will you be attending Voodoo Fest 2017? Hit us up and let us know, we’d love to meet you down by the bayou! @mmibty
