Well, 2017 came and went. It was a chaotic year and while the general consensus was that it beat 2016 there’s still a lot that is wrong with the world we live in. On a positive note, however, there was a TON of great music that was released in 2017. I managed to add hundreds of songs to my personal music library, many of which I had a chance to spin out and about around the country. I dwindled that list down to almost 30 of my favorite DJ weapons from this past year, compiled into a 90-minute mix that you can blast below.
I can say with confidence Tech-House had a great year and remains one of my favorite sub-genres to play out. Among that we saw the meteoric rise of CamelPhat, who were absolute workhorses in releasing track after track this year. In my mix I feature THREE CamelPhat productions, which is a large amount of tracks for any artist within one mix – but each one of the tracks sound completely different from the rest.
Beyond that, I continue to find dance floor success and personal jubilation from tracks that sample Hip-Hop and throwback vocals. Exemplified in tracks like “Shoulda Left Ya” by Paolo Martini, “Can’t You See” by Leon, “Creepin” by CID, and “Love Stream” by Mat.Joe and found throughout the entire mix.
Personally I love putting together mixes like these because it reminds me of how many amazing tracks dropped throughout the year. Big shoutout to guys like Walker & Royce, Eli Brown, Fisher, and many more artists for elevating their games and getting proper recognition this year.
