Oh baby! The Hot Since 82 show in Los Angeles on August 3rd, dubbed Knee Deep in Sound LA, was one for the books (Knee Deep in Sound, of course, after Hot Since 82’s own label). The crew was out for this one rolling deep outside Los Angeles Center Studios in downtown LA. This was a pleasantly intimate show, 21+, with lots of fun and zero incidents.
Dear Humans opened up the show at 5pm with Doc Martin b2b Tara Brooks at 7 and Hot Since 82 closing it out from 9pm to midnight. I thoroughly enjoyed the Doc Martin & Tara Brooks set as it stayed mostly in the jackin’ House realm and got bodies nice and warm through sunset and into the darkness for when Hot Since 82 came on.
Doc Martin and Hot Since 82 did a little b2b before Hot Since 82 took the rest of the show away playing a wide array of House tunes that were perfect for a Summer Saturday night. There were visuals projected onto the side of the high rise behind the DJ booth and the stage setup itself was very unique giving off the feel of the base of a pyramid or stadium seating.
Hot Since 82 is one of my favorite producers and DJs and his sets are always unique in the sense that you’ll get consistency but you’re never quite sure what songs he’ll drop. Admittedly I was disappointed to not hear many (or any?) Hot Since 82 tracks throughout the night. I thought it would have been fun to blend in some of Hot’s older tracks as well as some of his new ones from 8-Track and I’d love to know the thought process behind him choosing to leave his tracks off the playlist.
Overall a fantastic show, aided by the folks at Sound Nightclub and Goldenvoice. Hot Since 82 is certainly a global name that attracts House heads from far and wide and if you attend his shows you’re going to get a party. If you haven’t already make sure to check out his latest album and show the dude some love!
