Here’s something a little different, a little fresh for you on this Friday morning. Here in Boston it’s rainy outside, my head is groggy from last night, and this brand new Pretty Lights song is a perfect fit. “We Must Go On” may not be one of the wobble-filled bangers you’re used to hearing from Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights), but it’s absolutely soulful and contains some perfectly-used samples. It reminds me of something off his first album Taking Up Your Precious Time which was almost more “chill” than “dancey”.
Another first for Pretty Lights is the fact that he shot this music video himself, alongside girlfriend/photographer Krystle Blackburn. Here’s what Derek said of the video:
“Filmed and edited by Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights) and Krystle Blackburn (PLM’s Creative Director). The track is a new Pretty Lights song with a classic soulful hip-hop style.
The two of us traveled together all over the world during 2011, and filmed as much as our schedules allowed. Locations included in the video include Detroit, Warsaw, NYC, Vancouver, Toronto, London, Paris, Prague, New Orleans, Auckland, Sydney, Denver and many more. We used 2 canon 7Ds and about 6 different lenses and edited it all in FCP X.
It’s fun to film with your better half!”
