GRiZ & KOAN Sound Keeping The Funk Alive

I’m am simply amazed at what a great week this turned out to be for dance music. Big releases from Dada Life, Dirty South & Alesso, Avicii, Madeon and Nervo & Hook N Sling. New video from Deadmau5. Electric Zoo this weekend. It’s almost overwhelming. Then I find out we’re expecting projects from funky electro purveyors GRiZ and KOAN Sound both expected out next week. Sure, it’s not mainstream news but it sure is exciting to me. The best part? Both artists have put out one track from each project to generate buzz for their September 4th releases.

GRiZ‘s Mad Liberation, like all of his music to date is going to be released for free, but the value in his music is more than platinum. He continues to innovate with hip-hop beats, electro, soul and funk elements in productions that are both chill and engaging at the same time. “Smash The Funk” is everything we’ve come to expect both in terms of quality and innovation from the young producer and even features GRiZ himself playing the sax on the track.

When I first heard KOAN Sound, I was amazed with their completely glitchy and funk-filled sound. The British duo was quickly picked up by Skrillex’s OWSLA label and complement artists like Dillon Francis, Zedd, The M Machine and Porter Robinson very well. Their EP The Adventures of Mr Fox is set to feature four originals and three remixes. Here’s the first drop off that project. It’s not their most impressive offering but it definitely has me excited to hear the rest of the EP.
