The HARD father is coming… and we have your chance to see him FOR FREE at San Francisco’s Audio nightclub on June 14th. Gary Richards, aka DESTRUCTO, is one bad mother fucker. But bad meaning good not bad meaning bad – you get the gist. Gary is responsible for founding probably my favorite dance music promotions group, HARD Presents, which is behind events like Holy Ship, HARD Summer, HARD Day of the Dead, HARD Red Rocks, and so much more. It’s hard (no pun intended, I swear) to nail down Destructo as an artist. He hangs out in the world of House, both as a producer and a DJ, but he’s been known to favor all things funky – he has a song called “LA Funky” for that very reason. Destructo’s productions are just plain fun and his DJ sets are even more fun. Aside from the funk of his songs like “Higher” and “Technology”, which have elements of French House and Electro-House intertwined in them, Destructo has gotten into the Gangster House (G-House) movement and I couldn’t appreciate him more for that. Gary brought G-House pioneers Amine Edge & Dance aboard Holy Ship and he’s bringing another favorite of mine, Sharam Jey, to HARD Summer in August. To say he doesn’t play their songs in his sets would be a lie.
Destructo is a polished producer, an entertaining DJ, a dance music and promotions visionary, and a genuinely awesome dude (I can say that having met him a few times). Few other artists out there are as talented in their craft while remaining incredibly humble as Destructo is. Oh yeah, and he’s bringing new music along for the ride on his “West Coast EP World Tour.”
