After the worldwide success of “Pushing On” hitting Beatport number one for most of the Summer and charting at number 15 in the UK Top 40, Oliver Dollar has returned with a single on Jesse Rose’s Play It Down Records. Though “Pushing On” was a widely popular song in the realm of House music this Summer, it remains one of my personal favorites from 2014. You can hardly beat the funky bass line and infectious vocal hook and it always makes me happy to see quality dance music seeping into the Beatport Top 10. Oliver Dollar (also known as Oliver $) is a German producer and DJ who has been known to dig through crates for that perfect sample. The story with “Ain’t I’m Clean” is:
“On one of his many legendary trips to LA Oliver Dollar found himself entrenched in yet another spiral of digging for samples, listening to oddities and generally funking things up with his pal Brillstein. It was on this particular trip that “Ain’t I’m Clean” was born. A track perfect for all occasions, beginning, middle or possibly end.”
I believe the sample comes from the late Rufus Thomas who was an American rhythm and blues, funk and soul singer and comedian. From the first few seconds of “Ain’t I’m Clean” you can tell it contains funk all throughout. While this one may not stack up to “Pushing On” it remains obvious why Oliver Dollar, Brillstein, and the rest of the Play It Down Records crew are some of the greatest names in underground House music.
