King Most is one of San Francisco’s best kept secrets. I had the pleasure of seeing him spin one of the funkiest, most-soulful sets in my two years living in the Bay Area – while I was ice skating along the Embarcadero as part of HUSHConcerts‘ silent disco series. What I didn’t know at the time was that King Most is more than just a DJ, he’s also a producer with a running series of “Redirection” releases. The Redirections take some of the most well-known songs in music history and put a funky twist on them – hard not to love every song you hear.
As most people know, Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest passed away about a month ago. Hip Hop lost a legend. In an appropriate fashion, King Most took A Tribe Called Quest’s classic track “Can I Kick It” and put a super smooth twist on it. With all the original lyrics intact King Most added some horns, some drums, and a feel-good-Summertime-vibe that is worth putting on repeat.
King Most is worth a follow whether you live in San Francisco or anywhere else around the world – I’m excited to see what he releases next!
