Diplo & Friends Hosts DIRTYBIRD Takeover

If you’re wondering who the fat hairy man in bed with the dirty bird enjoying his post-coitus cigarette is, then it’s high time you got with the program. The label head behind Dirtybird Records, Claude Vonstroke has been a longtime staple in the underground minimal and tech house scene. His song “Who’s Afraid of Detroit” has been one of the most important and recognizable of the genre. He introduced the world to Justin Martin, a very exciting house DJ and producer we’ve talked about on here several times before. But most of all, he’s a humble music fan dedicated to his craft and always ready to please his ever-too-small fanbase. Diplo, who has gained international fame over the past couple years, has long been committed to promoting new genres and artists through his many channels. He helped Dillon Francis popularize moombahton and he currently is in the midst of the trap takeover. Just as anyone who’s ever seen a Diplo set can attest to, his taste in music is far reaching and he can respect any genre as good music. It also helps that he seems to be friends with everyone even remotely associated with electronic or hip-hop music. In keeping with his trend of promoting some of his favorite artists by giving them some time on his BBC Radio 1 show Diplo & Friends, he hosted a Dirtybird “takeover” last night, allowing Claude and Justin to each grab an hour of his airtime for their own sets. Working in their sounds while even toying around with some Dirtybird-style drum and bass, the pair provide 2 hours of great listening that’s miles away from the mainstream. Downloading and grooving out is strongly encouraged.
