To the pleasant surprise of, well, everyone, Kaytranada decided to drop a bunch of his unreleased work on the world for free earlier today in a zip file he uploaded to Mediafire and shared quietly as simply Whatever.zip. The haphazard nature of the tracks contained within are a pleasant peek into what makes Kaytranada tick – and his unique brand of electronic RnB and hip-hop beats shine. Everything from its delivery method, the inconsistent track labeling and the sheer range of productions really showcases Kay’s quirky yet undeniably likable sound and personality (just look at him chillin’ on that roof up there!). Best of all, the combination of remixes, originals, bootlegs and whatever else he decided to slap into a 150mb file is explicably good given what we’ve all come to expect from him. If you’ve never had a chance to check Kaytranada out live, put it on your bucket list and, in the mean time, enjoy a few of our select picks below and download the whole thing immediately.
Kaytranada’s scheduled to be putting out a lot of new music this summer, as if he hasn’t already, and has an EP on the way (which you can read all about in this interview). Most recently, he’s put out a remix of Pharell’s “Happy,” which you can check out below.
