Camp Bisco: The Hippie Fest for People Who Like Electronic Music

Love them or hate them, The Disco Biscuits have been an omnipresent force in electronic music far before the scene became what it is today. The electronic jam band has been hosting their own festival going on 11 years now and Camp Bisco has become a staple on the EDM festival circuit. Known for the “wooks” (or dreaded, dirty hippies) who follow Bisco like a fox follows a rabbit, the band’s longstanding presence in the scene has allowed them to forge connections with all realms of the music world, allowing for them to put together a spectacular lineup every year. Their diversity in the lineup is as present this year as ever.

The most exciting thing about Camp Bisco this year has to be the label curated stages from A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs‘ Fools Gold Records and Skrillex‘s OWSLA. The “Fool’s Gold Clubhouse” will play host to the label’s founders alongside some supporting acts which, if you know anything about A-Trak and his taste in music, should be something to behold. The OWSLA stage will certainly be drawing a good deal of attention with a packed lineup of Skrill’s heavy hitters Dillon Francis, Zedd, and Porter Robinson who will be sharing the stage with The M Machine, Alvin Risk and Kill The Noise. A highly lauded feature of past Bisco festivals, the Silent Disco, will be returning. For those of you unfamiliar, the Silent Disco is a surreal experience where the audience is given headphones through which they can choose which set to listen to (as multiple ones are often being played at once) and lose themselves in the music while passerby’s hear nothing more than the stomping of their grooving feet.

The main lineup packs a punch all of its own. If you’ve never seen The Disco Biscuits before, you owe it to them at least to check them out. In the right mindstate, I’ve found them to be quite entertaining and, hey, there’s got to be a reason they are so popular, right? Satisfying all the bass heads, Bassnectar and Skrillex are sure to draw massive crowds. The most intriguing headliner for me has to be Amon Tobin, the Brazilian experimental DJ, who’s bringing along his much talked about ISAM LIVE setup, which we covered a while back. No doubt you’ll be tripping balls even if you start the show stone cold sober.

Going through the lineup, you can really start to tell there’s truly something for everyone. Hip-hop fans will be checking out Atmosphere, Break Science and Big Boi. Electro fans will no doubt have fun with Dada Life, Mord Fustang, REVOLVR and the OWSLA crew and the dubstep fans have Zeds Dead, NiT GriT, and Mimosa to look forward to. Band fans will love Shpongle, Lotus and of course the Biscuits themselves. I could go on and on but the more I look at this list, the more excited I get.
